Department of Pedagogics and Innovative Education (кафедра педагогіки та інноваційної освіти) - it is a research and education unit Institute of Law, Psychology and Innovative Education Lviv Polytechnic National University.

General information

The Department of Pedagogy and Innovative Education provides quality training for bachelors majoring in "Vocational Education" in the following specialisations:

• Digital technologies
• Construction and welding
• Law
• Master's degree in educational and pedagogical sciences (teacher)
• Master's degree in Management, specialisation "Management of an educational institution"
• Preparation of postgraduate and doctoral students in the specialities 011 "Educational, pedagogical sciences" and 015 "Vocational education (by specialisation)».

The department provides training for bachelors of the speciality "Vocational Education", specialisation "Digital Technologies" under the double degree programme with the Lublin University of Technology (Lublin, Poland).

Currently, the department works in the following areas:

• General pedagogical training of university students
• Pedagogical training of postgraduate students
• Advanced training of university lecturers

The department has a postgraduate course in the specialities 011 "Educational and Pedagogical Sciences" and 015 "Vocational Education" (by specialisation), where full-time and part-time postgraduate students study.

History of the department

The department began its history on 1 September 1963, when the Department of Engineering and Pedagogical Training was established in accordance with the order of the Minister of Higher and Secondary Specialised Education of the Ukrainian SSR of 12 June 1963, No. 323 "On the Organisation of Departments at Lviv Polytechnic Institute". During its existence, the department has almost always been a graduate department - it trained specialists in the specialities of "engineer-pedagogue-electrician" (1971-1976), "engineer-pedagogue-builder" (1978-1996).

1996-1998 - the Department provided professional training for military lawyers of the Military Department of Lviv Polytechnic.

1999 - the Department licensed the speciality "Social Worker" in accordance with the Public Service Reform Project funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).

2001 - the speciality "Social Work" was transferred to the newly created Department of Sociology and Social Work of the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences.

2002 - the Department licensed a new speciality "Management of Educational Institution" (speciality "Management" of the specialisation "Management of Educational Institution"), which is now used to train masters for the needs of the Ukrainian education system.

In addition, in 2010, the Department began training bachelors in Journalism (now the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of the Institute of Law, Psychology and Innovative Education is the graduating department for this speciality), and in 2011 - in Practical Psychology, which was licensed (now the Department of Theoretical and Practical Psychology of the Institute of Law, Psychology and Innovative Education is the graduating department for this speciality).

2011 - the department became part of the Institute of Law, Psychology and Innovative Education.

2015 - the department was renamed the Department of Pedagogy and Social Management (PSM).

According to the decision of the Academic Council of Lviv Polytechnic, the Department has been training teachers for vocational education since 2016, providing educational services to students of engineering, technical, economic and humanitarian specialities of Lviv Polytechnic with the award of a professional qualification of a teacher (by speciality).

2016 - the Department licensed and started training bachelors in the speciality "Vocational Education (Specialisation)".

2015 - Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor becomes the Head of the Departmen Yurii Kozlovskyi.

2019 - the department was renamed the Department of Pedagogy and Innovative Education.

2022 - the department was headed by Doctor of Pedagogy, Professor Tetiana Horokhivska.

The department has 20 members of the teaching staff.

The department carries out:

1. Training at the first (bachelor's) and second (master's) levels of higher education:

• Bachelor's degree in Vocational Education in the following specialisations: Digital Technologies; Law; Construction and Welding; Mechanical Engineering; Agricultural Production, Agricultural Processing and Food Technologies
• Master's degree in "Educational, Pedagogical Sciences" (distance learning teacher; teacher (by speciality)
• Master's degree in Management, specialisation "Management of an educational institution"

2. Training of postgraduate and doctoral students in the specialities 011 "Educational, Pedagogical Sciences" and 015 "Vocational Education (by specialisation)".

3. From 2021/2022 academic year, the department provides training for bachelors majoring in Vocational Education, specialisation "Digital Technologies" under the double degree programme with the Lublin University of Technology (Lublin, Poland) .

4. Since 2021/2022 academic year, the Department has started training: masters from the People's Republic of China in the speciality "Educational, Pedagogical Sciences" (higher education teacher) and postgraduate students from the People's Republic of China.

The scientific research of the Department of Pedagogy and Innovative Education is focused on the development of topical issues of pedagogy, theory and methods of vocational training and education of modern youth, creating conditions for the professional development of the future specialist.

The department is a basic one for the training of scientific and pedagogical workers (postgraduate and doctoral studies) in the following specialities:

• 011 - Educational, pedagogical sciences
• 015 - Vocational education (by specialisation)

Research work

The scientific research of the Department of Pedagogy and Innovative Education focuses on the development of topical issues of pedagogy, theory and methods of vocational training and education of modern youth, creating conditions for the professional development of the future specialist.

The department is a basic one for the training of scientific and pedagogical staff (postgraduate and doctoral studies) in the following specialities:

• 011 - Educational and pedagogical sciences. Specialisation: general pedagogy and history of pedagogy
• 015 - Vocational education. Specialisation: theory and methods of vocational education

Complex research topic of the department: "Theoretical and methodological foundations of personal and professional development of a modern specialist in the context of integration into the international educational space". Registration number: 0121U113179. Coordinator - Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Yurii Kozlovskyi.

Scientific research of the department members is published in the scientific journal "Ukrainian Journal of Research in Education" [1], which has been published twice a year since 2016. The language of publication: Ukrainian, English. The journal is intended to cover the problematic issues of modern scientific research in the field of education; exchange of scientific ideas, research methodology and practical achievements; creation of an information field for discussion of the latest theories, concepts, innovative educational technologies and interdisciplinary research. The journal accepts articles by Doctors of Sciences, Candidates of Sciences, young scientists (postgraduates, applicants), as well as other persons with higher education and engaged in scientific activities. The scientific journal is re-registered.

The main areas of research on the complex topic are:

• Theoretical and methodological bases of formation of professional and pedagogical competence of higher education lecturers (Tetiana Horokhivska)

• Theoretical and Methodological Foundations for the Development of Lecturer's Professional and Pedagogical Mobility (Oleksandr Iievliev)

• Theoretical and methodological foundations of professional formation and development of a modern specialist (Nataliia Mukan)

• Theory and methodology of forming digital competence of a teacher in non-formal education (Oleh Stechkevych)

The department has a permanent scientific seminar: "Actual problems of professional development of the individual in the context of European integration processes".

Scientific work of students

НAt the Department of Pedagogy and Innovative Education, academic staff conducts active innovative work to engage students in research.

The purpose of this activity is to reveal the scientific and creative potential of students studying at the university, develop their scientific thinking and research skills, popularise pedagogical knowledge, form readiness to use an innovative approach in the field of scientific pedagogical research, and integrate students' scientific, educational and industrial activities.

The main task of the department's scientific and pedagogical staff in this area is to identify the scientific potential of students, recognise it in time, support it and direct it in the right creative direction. 'A student scientific conference is held annually, in which students who have presented their first scientific research in the field of pedagogy take part..

Students take an active part in the first stage of the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad in the discipline "Pedagogy", competing in theoretical and practical rounds. Students' presentations of their own vision of problems related to subject-subject relations of participants in the educational process, problems of education and training, and innovative teaching technologies are interesting and have elements of novelty. The winners are actively competing in the second round of the All-Ukrainian Olympiad in the discipline "Pedagogy" and show significant achievements:

• 2016 — Shaforost Alina, Diploma of the IIІ degree
• 2017 — Perun Volodymyr, Diploma of the II degree

Student research competitions.

The department annually holds a competition of student research papers. In 2017, 22 students took part in the first stage, and in 2018, 26 students took part. In 2016 and 2017, one paper was submitted to the second stage, and in 2018, six papers were submitted.

• 2016 р. — student of the group EIM-11 Hrytsiv  Vasylyna won the ІІІ place at the All-Ukrainian competition of student research papers in the speciality "Theory and Methods of Vocational Education" (scientific supervisor — professor, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences Kozlovskyi YU.)
• 2017 р. —student of the group EIM-11 Pavliv Oksana won the II place in the All-Ukrainian competition of student research papers in the speciality "Theory and Methods of Vocational Education" (scientific supervisor — associate professor, PhD in Education Dolnikova L.)
• 2018 р. — student of the group MAGE-11 Kulyk Nataliia won the III place in the All-Ukrainian competition of student research papers in the speciality "Theory and Methods of Vocational Education"(scientific supervisor - professor, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences Kozlovskyi Yu.)

In the academic year 2022/2023, Lviv Polytechnic National University hosted the All-Ukrainian Competition of Student Research Papers in the speciality "Educational Pedagogical Sciences", the winners of the Competition:

In order to summarise the initial experience and make this work systematic, the department has the I-Innovations-Ya CIS.

While studying their favourite profession, students have the most pleasant moments of cognition and self-affirmation when, under the guidance of teachers, they master human wisdom, professional wisdom and often pedagogical wisdom. In the scientific club, students are involved in research on pedagogical issues that are relevant and very dynamic, given the rapid changes in society and education, and therefore have a wide range of research opportunities.
