A brief history

Training of engineers and economists at Lviv Polytechnic and Economics Faculty. It was founded in 1965 and the first admission of students was in 1966. Deans of Engineering and Economics Faculty were the following:

  • Associate Professor Kozin P. (1965);
  • Professor Tyvonchuk I. (1966);
  • Associate Professor Babak B. (1966-1976);
  • Professor Bondarev P. (1976-1991);
  • Associate Professor Paranchuk S. (1991-1995).

In 1995 Faculty of Economics and Engineering was reorganized into Faculty of Economics and Management, headed by Professor Kuzmin Оleg Yevgenovych. Institute of Economics and Management was founded on the basis of Faculty of Economics and Management in 2001, and is headed by Professor Kuzmin О.Y. since its foundation untill today.

About the Institute INEM

"Institute of Economics and Management" provides quality educational services to prepare highly qualified specialists in enterprises economy, international economics, finance and credit, accounting and auditing, marketing, organizational management and administration, management of foreign economic activity, logistics, management of innovative activity, management of economic competition, innovation management taking into consideration modern achievements of European and world educational practices based on high academic standards and improving of educational and professional training programs on the basis of credit-modular system of educational process. Institute prepares specialists in accordance with the requirements of the global educational space. To fulfill corresponding tasks educational training programs in economics and management are being unified, modern information technologies are being introduced, international cooperation with leading universities and research centers is being developed, the material and technical base is being strengthened, methodological support is being expanded, close relations with companies, organizations, business agencies, banking institutions, public administrations are being developed.

Institute of Economics and Management prepares specialists in :

  • international economy who can work in the field of international marketing, banking and investment, pricing and competition in the global market;
  • finance and credit who can solve the problems of financial institutions in the field of insurance, credit operations, financial security and taxation, treasury, etc.;
  • accounting and audit with knowledge and practical skills in accounting, audit, economic analysis and taxation;
  • business economics who can work in the field of industrial and economic activities, investment and innovation activities, financial support and project management;
  • marketing who can work in industrial, commercial and financial organizations;
  • organizational management and administration in the field of industrial activity, innovation management, services, tourism, hotel management, personnel management and administration;
  • management of foreign economic activity: custom management activities, management of international tourism activity, with knowledge and practical skills of managing of monetary and credit relations, organization of export-import and other foreign operations;
  • logistics who specialize in the field of material and technical supply, distribution, warehousing and transportation of goods, supply of information and other services, and who can solve problems with optimization of material, financial and information flows, coordinate logistics, marketing and production strategies, make rational decisions on the organization of international supply chains;
  • management in the field of economic competition, who are able to perform the task of forming and implementing competition policy, management consulting, business valuation and property, competition law, public administration, analysis and planning of organizations, antitrust regulation, consumer protection, intellectual property protection, protection of economic competition, antitrust expertise, systems analysis and prediction of the competitive environment, risk management, crisis management;
  • management innovation, specializing in the implementation of various innovative projects;
  • managing innovative activities, who can work in all areas of the national economy. Their activity is connected with the implementation of various innovative projects.

Institute graduates are competitive in the labor market, successful in business and in government, holding high posts of leading specialists of organizations, academic institutions, government, diplomatic services and international organizations. The key to obtain high-quality education is the teaching staff of the Institute, almost 70% of whom are professors and associate professors with doctor's degree and PhD in economics. The institute has all necessary facilities for the development of professional skills improvement and retraining of teachers, as well as academic training. The main structural element of the Department of the Institute is entrusted with the educational process and preparation of methodological support (training manuals, handbooks, guidelines, etc.). Studying at the Institute provides scientific, professional and applied training. The best evidences of it are students’ annual victories in nationwide contests and competitions of graduation works. The university and institute library, modern computer classes, sports complexes, recreation centers in Alushta, Morske, Slavske are at Student’s disposal. Our students are able to learn and have fun, and evening parties prove it. They actively participate in university amateur festivals “Polytechnic Spring”, “Polytechnic Autumn”, “Miss Polytechnic”, “Prosvita” and various sporting activities in Lviv Polytechnic. Every department has research laboratories, works of which have modern market direction. The Institute has a specialized Academic Council for Doctoral and Master's theses. To improve the quality of students training scientific and industrial institutions “Galtek”, “Galfin”, “Galosvitbank”, “Renko”, “Economosvita” were established. They involve Lviv Academic Gymnasium, Lviv secondary school number 87, Lviv Banking Institute, Lviv Technical College, Institute for Regional Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and other units. Active partnership is maintained with leading universities in Germany, Poland, Great Britain, Russia, Canada, France, Czech Republic,Slovakia, Austria, Finland, Japan and others.

Research and teaching potential

The key to successful providing of high quality education is teaching staff of the Institute, 70% of whom are professors and associate professors with PhD in economics. The institute created all necessary conditions for the development of professional skills of teachers and academic training. Departments conduct research on current economic problems. The Institute has doctoral and postgraduate cources, specialized academic council for defence of doctoral and candidate’s theses in economic fields. Annual victories of the students of the Institute in nationwide olympiads and diploma works contests is the best indication of a high scientific level of their training. The Institute of Economics and Management participates in educational and industrial complexes along with the Institute for Regional Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Lviv Banking Institute of the National Bank of Ukraine and other organizations. Active partnership relations are maintained with leading universities of Ukraine, the UK, China, Germany, Poland, Russia, USA, France and Japan.

Structure of the INEM

The Institute consists of nine Departments: Management and International Business, Management, Finance, Accounting and Analysis, Investment and Business Economics, Marketing and Logistics, Theoretical and Applied Economics, Personnel Management and Administration, Department of Foreign Trade and Customs Operations.

In addition, the Institute includes the following research laboratories: research laboratory — 87 (supervisor- Professor Kuzmin A. E.), research laboratory — 54 (supervisor — Professor Chukhray N.I.), research laboratory — 14 (supervisor — Professor Krykavskyy Ye. V.).

The total number of teaching staff of the Institute is 300 people, including about 30 Doctors of Economic Sciences, Professors, and 200 Candidates of Economic Sciences, Associate Professors.

Collegium and Trade Union Bureau of IEM unites all the active students of the institute, who came to the university to gain not only theoretical knowledge but also practical skills of administrative and organizational activities alongside with the ability to work in a team and to get experience, which will be needed in future. The scope of our activity is the implementation of various initiatives by the students, with the support of the administration of the Institute of Economics and Management, headed by Professor Oleh Kuzmin. Collegium and Trade Union Bureau of IEM includes 17 departments, including the training center, Your Format, and Young Enlightenment newspapers.
