Since 2005 the department is headed by Koryahin V.N., professor, doctor of education, doctor of physical education and sport, honored coach of Ukraine. According to requirements of the time the Department provides:

• learning process of physical education;
• scientific and methodical;
• sports;
• physical culture and massive;
• health;
• educational work.

The department initiated the introduction in life of the complex TRP, the state tests of Ukraine; develop methods of classes and specialized classes for students of special medical groups. Directions of the Department:

• National traditions of physical culture and sports in the western regions of Ukraine.
• Education of students according to humanism ideals of the Olympic movement.
• Educational and methodical foundations training of athletes in conditions of higher education.

History Department

Department of Physical Education was established in 1944. At different times the department was headed by:

• Goncharov A.M. (1944-1949),
• Dmitrenko P.P. (1949-1952),
• Bedilo L.L. (1951-1952),
• Vestfrid M.L. (1952-1953), (1954-1972),
• Kozlovsky M.Z. (1953-1954),
• Associate Professor Prokhorov A.A. (1972- 2005)
• Koryahin V.M., Ph.D., professor. Honored coach of Ukraine, the Excellence in Education of Ukraine since 2005.

The department has 51 teacher. Of these: one doctor, professor, honored coach of Ukraine, Excellence in Education, head of Department Koryahin V.M.; 6 associate professors, PhDs 5; 3 honored coach of Ukraine; 1 honored coach of Eurasia; 4 Excellent Education of Ukraine; 3 masters of sports of international class, 20 masters of sports of Ukraine. The teaching staff conduct championship among university institutions from 22 sports and cultivate 41 kinds of sport. In sports clubs are about 900 students. The groups of the health involve nearly 1000 students. University combined teams take part in Lviv Universiade of the 38 sports and 29 sports in Ukraine Universiade, sports games of Ukraine. Among university students 131 candidate masters of sports, 32 masters of sports, 2 masters of sports of international class.

Scientific work of Department

Scientific activities teachers of the department carry out in the direction "Problems of Physical Education and Sports University students". Director Professor Koryahin V.M. If in 2011 teachers of the department published 29 works, 17 of them in professional publications, 12 in non-specialized publications. Teachers took part with presentations in 3 international conferences (5 reports) in 5 national conferences (7 reports) and one regional conference (2 report). There was 69 student scientific conference at which heard 57 reports, then in 2012 teachers of the department published in state scientific publications - 44, including 26 vakivski, published 4 textbooks (compilers: Assoc. Blavt A.Z. (2), Assoc. Kozibroda L.V. - (2)). Teachers of the department took part with presentations in: 4 international scientific - practical conferences (6 reports), 4 national conferences - 14 reports, conducted 3 scientific seminars of department, which heard 6 reports. It was conducted 70th student scientific and technical conference at which was heard 47 reports, 11 of which are recommended for publication in a collection of student research papers IHSN.
