“Institute of Humanitarian and Social Sciences” is teaching and research structural unit of Lviv Polytechnic National University. The Institute provides the creation of a system of teaching and studying of humanities which would help students to master good knowledge of the history of Ukrainian statehood, Ukrainian and Foreign Culture, Ukrainian language, philosophy, political science, sociology and social work, religious studies and the most widespread languages.

History of the Institute
The Institute of the Humanitarian Education, which was later renamed as the Institute of Humanitarian and Social Sciences, was established by the rector’s order № 37-10 on 06/06/1992. It was one of the first educational and scientific institutes of Lviv Polytechnic. Professor Deshchynskyi L., Honoured Science and Technics Worker of Ukraine, Academician of the Academy of High School of Ukraine, Sc.D., was the first Head of the Institute.
The Institute of Humanitarian and Social Sciences (IHSS) provides of specialists in the following fields:
- “Scientific discipline of documentation and information activities”;
- “Sociology”;
- “Social work” on the educational qualificational degrees of and master;
- prepares masters in “Consolidated information” and provides general training in humanitarian and social sciences for students of all majors in Lviv Polytechnic.
