Department of Political Science and International Relations is the teaching and research unit of the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences.

General information
Scientific and educational-methodical activities of the Department are aimed at introduction of new approaches into training of future professionals. The highly qualified professionals should have national consciousness and be able to evaluate critically and realistically the social and political reality, to analyze political processes, to promote the consolidation of Ukrainian statehood and be active participants of the political process. Political Science teaching at Lviv Polytechnic is based on the newest domestic and international achievements in the humanitarian field. The key task of Political Science is to form a high political consciousness and political culture of the younger generation. This task is successfully implemented.

Teaching experience
From 1990 to 2011 the Department staff has prepared and published over 30 coursebooks (three books on political science were recognized the best in Ukraine), educational tutorials and dictionaries, more than 100 educational guides. In order to improve the educational process lecturers use the latest technologies and innovative methods, conduct specialists training according to modern curricula which are adapted to the European and world educational systems.
Experienced professors and associate professors developed and deliver the syllabus of the following majors:
- «Political Science»;
- «Theory of Parliamentary System»;
- «Social Policy»;
- «Basic Theory of International Relation»
for the students of all specializations at the University. The Department draws particular attention to the involvement of the students in researches. Every year about 40 students of Lviv Polytechnic National University take part in academic conferences . Top young scientists represent the University in national competitions in political science and international conferences. The Political Science Department staff is the initiates and organizes many public events. Lecturers are actively involved in the preparing and holding of the students meetings with prominent politicians and community leaders, where students discuss, debate, considere topical political issues.
Scientific work
The department is working on a scientific theme «Problems and prospects of democracy in Ukraine,» pursues scientific research and development in the field of history and theory of political science, problems of the Ukrainian state, the electoral process, the formation of political culture. In parallel, developing research issues in international relations. By the renaming of the department traditionally were held scientific conferences of different levels of problems and prospects of teaching political science in high school. Since the renaming of the department and expanding its specialization conferences of international relations are held.

The department expands scientific cooperation and contacts with universities in Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany.
